The Crumpsall Concert Band is an amateur band based in Crumpsall, a suburb of North Manchester in the UK. The band was formed in 1992 and was originally known as the Crumpsall Comets Marching Band, but the marching and competitive activities were dropped in 1998. The band then became the Crumpsall Concert Band and now concentrates on serving the local community with a calendar of concert performances, playing at nursing homes, garden fetes, churches and most of North Manchester's parks. Our repertoire comprises popular marches, light classical works, tunes from musicals (e.g. Phantom of the Opera - Annie - Oaklohoma), songs from popular composers (e.g. Beatles - ABBA) and theme music from well know films (e.g. Jaws - Pirates of the Caribbean). We celebrated our 10th anniversary in 2002 with a successful concert led by guest conductor Bernard Tupman and guest soloists included renowned saxophonist Johnny Roadhouse and acclaimed tuba player Mike Johnson. The band has also performed with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The Crumpsall Concert Band tries to fulfil the needs of local instrumentalists, mainly brass and reeds, by enabling them to play together. A Trad Band has started and practices from 6:30 to 7:30pm. A small group have formed a clarinet quartet and are now forming a saxophone quartet. Some of our players are late comers to music having first taken up the hobby in adulthood, while others have rediscovered their love of playing after many years of absence from this most social of hobbies. Regardless of ability and experience, all players are encouraged to enjoy music making and achieve their maximum potential. Crumpsall Concert Band is self supporting and the conductors and tutors are all volunteers. No charge is made for the loan of instruments and tuition. A small fee is made for the rental of the hall. We need more brass players Trombone, euphonium and tuba players are desperately needed - can you help? |
